On November 30th, the Hope Shines center was abuzz with laughter, excitement, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude. This year’s Thanksgiving event was a heartfelt celebration of togetherness, achievement, and the resilient spirit of the children, families, and supporters who make our mission possible. The day unfolded with a mix of reflection, creativity, and fun, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who attended.

Early Morning Beginnings

The day started bright and early as Ismael, one of our dedicated team members, welcomed the children at 8:00 am. The center quickly filled with the cheerful chatter of children ready for the day’s festivities. The children were eager to showcase their talents and participate in the planned activities. Their energy was infectious, setting a positive tone for the event.

A Warm Welcome to Parents and Guests

By 2:00 pm, parents and guests began arriving, greeted warmly by Bienta and Cecile. At the information desk, Bienta ensured that each attendee received a name tag, helping to create a sense of community and belonging. Meanwhile, a slideshow of pictures and videos played, offering glimpses into the impactful work Hope Shines has accomplished over the past year. These moments of reflection reminded everyone of the importance of the day—to give thanks for the progress made and the support received.

Setting the Stage

At 2:45 pm, the event officially kicked off. The emcees delivered opening remarks that resonated with the audience, highlighting the purpose of the gathering and providing an overview of the day’s activities. The air buzzed with anticipation as the agenda unfolded, promising an exciting blend of cultural expression, interactive fun, and community bonding.

A Cultural Spectacle

One of the day’s highlights was a traditional dance performance by the Hope Shines troupe, led by Cecile. From the first beat of the drum, the audience was captivated. The dancers, dressed in vibrant traditional attire, moved gracefully to the rhythm, their performance embodying the rich cultural heritage of Rwanda. The audience responded with cheers and applause, their appreciation evident in their smiling faces.

Interactive Activities and Games

The heart of the event lay in its interactive segment, which began at 3:00 pm. The children’s creativity and enthusiasm took center stage as they engaged in face and wall painting. Simultaneously, ongoing showcases of handcrafted items and fashion designs displayed the immense talent within the Hope Shines community.

The games brought sheer joy to participants and spectators alike. From the Pinata Horse and Button Shirt race to the Treasure Hunt and Musical Chairs, the activities were a delightful mix of laughter, teamwork, and friendly competition. Children and adults worked together in games like Linking Colors and the Spoon and Balls race, fostering bonds and reinforcing the spirit of unity.
